Birth Centenary of Dr. Gangadhar Balwant Gramopadhye at Goa University

Birth centenary of Dr. Gangadhar Balawant Gramopadhye was celebrated by the Department of Postgraduate Instruction and Research at Goa University.  While retired Professor Dr. P. B. Wader was the chief guest on the occasion, Professor Dr. K. Shripad Bhat, Dean of the faculty of languages and literature had presided over. Dr. Gramopadhye, who was a scholar of linguistics, medieval literature and modern literary criticism, had groomed our generation by inculcating love for discussions, debates, seminars and conferences, said Prof. Wader. We have passed on the baton to the next generation, which is celebrating his birth centenary this year, he further added. He applauded the Department of Marathi for organizing meaningful seminars, holding lectures of veterans, compelling students to attend conferences outside Goa University, organizing study tours for students outside Goan boundaries, holding film shows and making students computer literate. This was indeed the dream of Dr. Gramopadhye, Dr. Wader said.

            Prof. Bhat said that progress of a department needs strong leadership, which Marathi Department has been in receipt of. Dr. Gramopadhye will be remembered now and then, whenever the Department will make long strides.

            Dr. S. M. Tadkodkar who is the head of Marathi Department apprised the august audience about activities, which are being held with co-operation from his colleagues and students alike. Dr. Gramopadhye has been source of inspiration for them, who love academics, but unfortunately he was neglected by them who longed for and stole limelight at his cost, Dr. Tadkodkar moaned. He assured that seminars based on the literary contribution of late Dr. Gramopadhye, Prof. Wader and an eminent Marathi poet from Goa Shri. Narendra Bodke will be organized in the near future.

            Dr. V. D. Sawant made an introductory speech after students presented an invocational song. Prof. Wader garlanded the photograph of Dr. Gramopadhye. Relatives of Dr. Gramopadhye also illustrated various facets of Dr. Gramopadhye. A two minute silence was observed for the demise of Dilip Chitre, who was known for his illustrious career as  a Marathi poet. Dr. Tadkodkar proposed a vote of thanks.

डॉ० गंगाधर बलवन्त ग्रामोपाध्ये यांनी मराठी समीक्षा, भाषाशास्त्र व मध्ययुगीन मराठी साहित्याचे वृत्तिगांभीर्य पाळून अध्ययन केले. मुंबई विद्यापीठाच्या गोव्यातील पदव्युत्तर अध्यापन व संशोधन केन्द्रात मराठी विभागाची स्थापना केली. त्या विभागाच्या माध्यमातून विद्यापीठाच्या स्तरावरील चर्चासत्रांचे आयोजन केले. युवा पिढीतील प्राध्यापकांना संशोधनपर लेखनासाठी बैठक मारण्याचे बालकडू पाजले. आपण त्यांच्या या वृत्तिगांभीर्याने केलेल्या संस्कारात वाढू शकलो. जे आपण त्यांच्याकडून शिकलो तेच आपण पुढच्या पिढीस देऊ शकलो. ही पुढची पिढी आज त्यांच्या जन्मशताब्दीचे आयोजन करते आहे. ही परात्पर शिष्याने त्याच्या परात्पर गुरूला वाहिलेली आदरांजली होय, असे उद्गार आजचे मान्यवर ज्येष्ठ मराठी समीक्षक व गोवा विद्यापीठातील सेवानिवृत्त विभाग प्रमुख व प्रोफेसर डॉ० प्रह्लाद वडेर यांनी काढले. ते प्रमुख अतिथी या नात्याने गोवा विद्यापीठाच्या मराठी पदव्युत्तर अध्यापन व संशोधन विभागात डॉ० ग्रामोपाध्ये यांच्या जन्मशताब्दीपूर्तीच्या निमित्ताने आयोजित करण्यात आलेल्या कार्यक्रमात बोलत होते. आजवर डॉ० ग्रामोपाध्ये यांच्या कार्याकडे अत्यंत अक्षम्य असे दुर्लक्ष झाले परन्तु आता या मराठी विभागाने त्यांच्या कार्याकडे लक्ष पुरविलेले दिसत असल्याने आपण संबंधितांचे अभिनंदन करतो, असे त्यांनी म्हटले.

अध्यक्षस्थानी भाषा व साहित्य संकायचे अधिष्ठाता प्रोफेसर डॉ० के० श्रीपाद भट होते.  ते म्हणाले की गेल्या दोन-चार वर्षांत मराठी विभागाने भरगच्च सभागृहात अनेक अर्थपूर्ण व सर्वांना लाभदायक अशी चर्चासत्रे आयोजित केली, विद्यार्थ्यांचे कल्याण साधण्यासाठी गोव्याच्या बाहेर अभ्यास-सहलींचे आयोजन केले. या विभागाने अनेक नामवंत विचारवंतांना निमंत्रित करून त्यांची विद्वत्तापूर्ण व्याख्याने आयोजित केली. ही अभ्यासपूर्ण कृतींची परंपरा म्हणजे डॉ० ग्रामोपाध्ये यांनी पाहिलेल्या स्वप्नाची फलिते होत, असे मतप्रकटन प्रोफेसर भट यांनी केले.

       सर्व उपस्थितांचे स्वागत करतेवेळी विभागाने पार पाडलेल्या कैक कार्यक्रमांचा तपशील देताना कवी व मराठी विभागाचे प्रमुख डॉ० सु० म० तडकोडकर यांनी म्हटले की गेल्या चार वर्षांपासून डॉ० वडेर यांना या ना त्या निमित्ताने निमंत्रित करण्यात येते व त्यांच्याकडून मार्गदर्शन घेतले जाते. येत्या काही महिन्यांत डॉ० ग्रामोपाध्ये, डॉ० वडेर व गोमंतकीय प्रतिभावन्त कवी नरेन्द्र बोडके यांच्या साहित्यकृतींवर चर्चासत्रे आयोजित करण्यात येणार असून त्या निमित्ताने वाचण्यात आलेल्या शोधनिबंधांचे पुस्तकरूपाने प्रकाशन करण्याची योजना आहे. यापूर्वी विज्ञानसाहित्यावर आधारलेल्या चर्चासत्रात सादर केलेल्या शोधनिबंधांचे पुस्तक प्रकाशित करण्यात आले असून त्याचे स्वागत सर्वच विद्वानांनी केले आहे असे डॉ० तडकोडकर म्हणाले.

       मराठी विभागातील प्रपाठक डॉ० वासुदेव सावन्त यांनी सर्व उपस्थितांचा व्यवस्थितपणे परिचय करून दिला. या कार्यक्रमाच्या निमित्ताने डॉ० ग्रामोपाध्ये यांचे आप्त उपस्थित होते. त्यांनीही उपस्थितांसमोर स्वत:चे मनोगत व्यक्त केले. तत्पूर्वी एम० ए० वर्गातील सिद्धेश, स्वप्नील, गौरवी, अपर्णा, सविता व सीमा या विद्यार्थ्यांनी अप्रतिम स्वागत गीत सादर केले. डॉ० ग्रामोपाध्ये याच्या छायाचित्राला पुष्पाहार घालण्यात आला. त्यानंतर नुकतेच दिवंगत झालेले मराठी कवी दिलीप चित्रे यांच्या निधनानिमित्त दोन मिनिटांची स्तब्धता पाळण्यात आली. एम० ए० ची कुमारी तेजश्री तारी या विद्यार्थिनीने आभारप्रदर्शन केले.
